Cook Culture is hosting a special Syrian food event in support of the Gordon Head Refugee Sponsorship Group. If you love food and cooking, you are probably already familiar with the cooking classes and demonstration events they offer.
This event will be a Chef’s demonstration of how to make a Syrian inspired menu… but this is better than watching a cooking show, because after Chef Meens works his magic with the demonstration, the audience will get to eat a full meal and enjoy a glass of wine!
Check out the mouthwatering menu:

What a great night! Thanks to Keith Fraser and the Big Band of the Greater Victoria Concert Band for fantastic night. We were literally dancing in the aisles … and that was before we found out how much we raised!
Our donations at the door and the refreshment stand (thanks 4th Bay to Bay Brownies and Sparks!) brought in a whopping $1,423.40!
Add to that total the matching contribution from Raymond James, Ltd, and an additional $5,000 in support from them, and that makes for a successful night!
After the success of Donation days, the home is nearly furnished. We do still have a specific list of items needed, however, and are seeking these items, or donations of funds to purchase them. Please use the form below to contact us about any items you would like to contribute.
The GHRSCG is thrilled to announce that Raymond James is making a significant contribution to our fundraising efforts.
We look forward to the formal announcement about this donation at the Big Band concert on February 9.
2 Burley Men Moving and Hauling has donated a van and 2 movers help us move donations from the Donation Days to the house we have rented for our family.
They were slated for three hours work, but went far above and beyond what was promised, staying to help us set the furniture in place, and lending a hand with our project.
Thanks so much, Lex and Warren from 2 Burley Men!!
The GHRSCG is hosting a “donation drop off day” for members of the Gordon Head and broader community to drop off items that the family we are matched with may need.
You can help! First, bring your items to Donation Days!
Second, help us get the word out: share the event promotions , and the Donation Days Poster [PDF], with your friends!
The GHRSCG has been matched with a Syrian family who are due to arrive in Canada in 3 – 6 weeks. We have found a rental home for the family, and need to furnish this home for mother, father, and four boys aged 10 and under.
Please help us furnish their home with donations of gently used furnishings, or funds to purchase the items below.
UPDATE: Thank you so much to everyone who donated furnishings and brought items to the Donation Days event on January 30 and 31. There are more of you than I was able to keep up with in our list of item updates, and a heart felt thanks to every one of you.
UPDATE: We are accepting donations of our needed items (see below) at Donation Days, and our donation form is no longer active
