About Us

We are the Gordon Head Refugee Sponsorship Community Group (GHRSCG). We formed in 2016 with the goal of sponsoring refugee families coming to Greater Victoria, BC. Since then we have successfully completed 3 sponsorships, helping a total of 4 Syrian family households successfully settle here. We are a secular group that has gratefully received support from many generous donors and other helpers over the years, especially the Parish of St. Dunstan’s.

To strengthen our organization, we have incorporated as a society, and we are now working on establishing our charitable status so that we can issue tax receipts directly to our donors.

We are currently raising money for our fourth sponsorship (and fifth family). This is a Syrian family of five that already has relatives in Victoria who are eager to be reunited with them and to help them start a new life here.

GHRSCG Statement of Purpose

For each family we sponsor
GHRSCG enables a newcomer family to feel wanted and appreciated, to become Canadian, connected with, contributing to, and thriving in the local community; and to live an independent, fulfilling, and comfortable life.

For our organization
To use our skills and commitment to provide the trusted, organized and knowledgeable supports that enable a refugee family group to find independent and connected lives in Canada, with a shared understanding that:

  • we value one another
  • we have defined roles and responsibilities shared within the group
  • we are structured enough to enable flexibility
  • we keep good records
  • we have good financial control
